1863 November 28: Quotas for the Next Draft

December 4, 2013

Another draft will follow quickly on the heels of the one that just took place, and The Prescott Journal is already looking at the new quotas for Pierce and Saint Croix counties.  This article is from the Journal’s November 28, 1863, issue.

The Next Draft.

QUOTAS OF THE TOWNS.

Below we give the quotas of the towns of Pierce and St. Croix counties, for the Draft for 300,000 on the 5th of January next.  Each town will have credit on its quota for all its volunteers since the draft was ordered, Oct. 17th.—Volunteers receive all the advance pay and bounty, $302 to new recruits, $402 to veterans.  It is to be hoped that Pierce Co. will fill her quota by volunteering, as the men must go, either with the bounty, or without.  W. W. Hutchins is now recruiting here for the 6th Regt.  Co. B has a glorious history, and a proud position in the army, and there is no better company to volunteer in.  The Quotas are as follows:
