1864 December 3: Casualties in the 35th Wisconsin Infantry

The following list of sick soldiers from the 35th Wisconsin Infantry comes from The Prescott Journal of December 3, 1864.  Carmine “Carmi” P. Garlick was first assistant surgeon with the 35th.

Sick from the Thirty-Fifth.

The following is a list of Wisconsin soldiers belonging to the 35th regiment, late from the White River Expedition, who were admitted at United States General Hospital No. 2, Vicksburg, Miss., Oct. 14th, 1864.

COMPANY A.

Died.—Jos. Donlgenand [sic], Oct. 20th; Claus Jansen, Oct. 18th; Fred. Loell [sic], Oct. 23d; Herman Schmidt, Oct. 22d.
Furloughed.
—Ernst Bemm, Oct. 25th.
Admitted.
—Jwigen [sic] Peters.

COMPANY B.

Died.—Clark Davis, Nov. 5th; Fred. Schultz, Oct. 25th; M. M. Baldwin, Oct. 20th; Wm. H. Hunger, Oct. 19th.
Admitted.
—John Mathews [Mathers?].

COMPANY C.

Died.—Fred. Stanz [sic], Nov. 18th.
Admitted.—Wm. Moses, Herman Knolle, Cyrus L. Clausen, Sergt. Geo. O. Stratton.

COMPANY D.

Admitted.—Corp. Jacob Kempher [sic], Sergt. James Nugent; August Wachtler [died November 29, 1864].

COMPANY E.

D. M. Blanchard, returned to duty Oct. 27.
Died.—Theodore Verker, Oct. 14th.
Admitted.
—Joseph F. Patterson, Dennis O’Conner [he deserted December 22, 1864].

COMPANY F.

Died—Nathan Haviland, Oct. 18; Wm. Todd, Oct. 20; Wm. H. Groot [sic], Oct. 17.
Admitted.—Sylvester Kingsley, Gottlieb Kroft, James Ingle, Sergt. James B. McKenzie.

COMPANY G.

Admitted—Thaddeus Conklin, W. T. Hastings, Charles Edler.

Admitted—John Kohl, Frank Brown, Alvin M. Dixon.

COMPANY I.

Furloughed—Sergt. John Hass, Oct. 23; George Harrison.
Died—Corp. Chas. E. Eastman, Oct. 16.

COMPANY K.

Admitted—Hugh McHatton.
Died—Luther Mead, Oct. 15.
