John B. Peabody (1836-1911)
John Brown Peabody was born October 2, 1836, to John Brown Peabody and Eliza Ann Carr Peabody, in New York City. He moved to Saint Croix County, Wisconsin, in 1854. John married Amelia Thompson (1844-1932) in Hammond, Wisconsin, on November 24, 1861. Their children were Merton (1862-64), Arthur Percy (1866-1938), Bertha (1869-73), and Meta May (1873-1954).
In 1864, Peabody joined New Company H of the 16th Wisconsin Infantry. He enlisted January 5, 1864, and is listed as being from the Town of Springfield in Saint Croix County. He mustered out with the Company on July 12, 1865.
John Brown Peabody was a farmer his entire life. He died in Baldwin, Wisconsin, on May 7, 1911. He, his wife Amelia, and their daughter May are all buried in the Baldwin Cemetery, along with John’s brother William Henry Peabody and some of his family.

John Brown Peabody, a Civil War veteran and resident of St. Croix county since 1854, died at his home in Baldwin May 7 at the age of seventy-five years.
