James McGeorge was living in Prescott (Pierce County), Wisconsin when he enlisted on October 28, 1861, in Prescott’s Lyon Light Guards—what became Company A of the 12th Wisconsin Infantry. He was a corporal when he died on October 12, 1863, in the Regimental Hospital in Natchez, Mississippi.
From The Prescott Journal of November 7, 1863:
A letter from the 12th Wis. says : A few days ago C. A. Beebe, and last night Corp. J. M. George [sic: McGeorge], of Co. A, 12th Wisconsin, died. They were both good soldiers, and their loss to the company is irreparable.
