Roswell V. Pratt

Roswell “Rossie” Pratt was living in River Falls when he joined Company G of the 4th Wisconsin on November 7, 1863.  On July 14, 1864, he was promoted to Chief bugler.

Roswell V. Pratt and Albert Jones were transferred to the 1st Infantry’s Band, where they are both listed as being from “Milwaukee” and Pratt is listed as “Roswell Platt.” Jones will die from disease in Louisville, Ky., on March 5, 1862. Pratt will transfer to Company G of the 4th Wisconsin Cavalry (the Hudson City Guards) on November 7, 1863, and will be promoted to a Chief Bugler for the 4th Regiment on July 14, 1864. The 4th Infantry became the 4th Cavalry on September 1, 1863, and William H. Winchester, also from River Falls, was another Chief Bugler in the 4th Cavalry.
