John A. Otis (abt. 1835-1864)

John A. Otis, was from Trimbelle (Pierce County) when he enlisted in Company A, 12th Wisconsin Infantry, on December 18, 1863.  He died June 11, 1864, in Rome, Georgia, from “disease.”

From The Prescott Journal, July 9, 1864:

We regret to learn that John Otis, of Co. A, 12th Reg., son of Franklin Otis, Esq., died in hospital a short time ago.  No soldier ever entered the service with purer motives, and his death is a severe affliction to his aged parents.
